what parents ask us

Frequently asked questions

At what age should my child start seeing the dentist? +

By age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth coming in. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry has recommended this for years, and it really does make a difference.

How often should my child have a check-up? +

Most kids come every 6 months. Higher-risk kids (frequent cavities, orthodontic concerns, special health needs) may come every 3-4 months.

Are X-rays safe for kids? +

Yes. We use low-dose digital X-rays and take them only when clinically necessary. Digital X-rays emit a tiny fraction of the radiation of the older film X-rays.

What if my child has a dental emergency? +

Call us right away at (865) 940-1280, we hold same-day emergency slots every day. For after-hours emergencies, our answering service will connect you with the on-call doctor.

My kid is scared of the dentist. What do we do? +

You're in good company. We see it every day. Start with a desensitization visit, no exam, no tools, just a chance to meet the team. From there, we build up at your kid's pace.

Do you accept patients with special needs? +

Yes, proudly. See our Special Needs page for how we accommodate, and call us first so we can plan the first visit together.

Do you offer sedation? +

Yes, in-office sedation administered by a board-certified M.D. anesthesiologist who comes to our office. No hospital trip. See our Sedation page for details.

What if I don't have dental insurance? +

Our Smile Club membership plan gives you all the preventive care your kid needs at a flat annual fee, plus 20% off everything else. No waiting periods.
